BALI- where oh where to stay?

There are many different Balis and it’s fair to say that whatever you are looking for you can find it here. If you know who you are and what you want, you won’t be disappointed, Choose the area you stay in wisely. What kind of person are you and what are you looking for?

Do you want to be in the “thick of the action” crowded streets elbow to elbow with shops and restaurants slightly upscale. Helpful gentlemen stopping you every 30 steps with offers of transport. Restaurants, spas and hotels…..You want to be in Seminyak

Are you down and dirty wanting lots of bargains pouring out of street-side shops, throbbing night life, tatooed limb to limb, famous Kuta beach, restaurants and warungs and hotels with deals – you want to be in Kuta.

How about quiet old style Bali tourism? Restaurants and shops for sure but low rise development and some old favourite hotels. A famous stretch of beach to walk on….Sanur is a quiet and charming place.

How about surf city with taut limbed surfer girls and guys on motor bikes zippng up Jalan Uluwatu and stopping at the myriad of small restaurants on their way to or from Bali’s  great and beautiful surfing beaches. Some spectacular cliff side villas and wedding destinations found here In the Uluwatu Bukit.

Here is a treasure. Just a 20 minute drive from the airport and you are in another world with some of the best views on the island. Bali’s best beaches in easy reach Jimbaran is home to some of Bali’s top hotels and fantastic private villas. Jimbaran is sometime referred to as the Bukit as well due to it’s spectacular hillside views. Lots of new shops and top class restaurants available but much more civilized than the mad traffic and crowds of Seminyak. Bali’s best new destination with lots to see and do without the hassle. Why fight the throngs?



If you really don’t care where you go as long as you have luxury accomodation and hotel services with a beautiful beach – Nusa Dua is your place. There are some great cultural attractions like a wonderful art museum and some little temples, so take a peek. Sadly, few people who stay in Nusa Dua seem to make it off the hotel grounds.

How about a fun and crowded with a hippy-dippy ambiance? Central Ubud is not the place for quiet meditation. Lovely places on the outskirts with dramatic views to the river are a welcome respite after a day in the crowds. Lovely artist’s studios and charming museum and lots and lots of restaurants and shops.

For the adventure seeker, go to the north of Bali and stay in some of the charming little hotels and villas there, but do your research to make sure the photos don’t lie!

Lastly – The villa vs hotel question. If you find a great villa it is a wonderful personal experience that no hotel can match. Check out the on-line reviews to be sure, but when you find a wonderful villa you will never go back to hotel holidays in Bali. Less expensive, but often more luxurious, more personal with charming staff to cater to your whims, many villa’s offer meals by in-house chefs and free transport, Check the reviews and you will know if you are heading in the right direction.
